Police Report Lodged Against Zaharuddin Muhammad Over Racially Charged Social Media Post

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Malaysia, 27 June 2025 – A coalition of youth groups, including Kolektif Jalan Teruih, Majlis Belia Daerah Seberang Perai Tengah, and Anak Muda Permatang Pauh, has filed a police report at IPD Perda against Zaharuddin Muhammad for a racially provocative social media post. The groups condemned the post as a subtle incitement that undermines national harmony, targets racial sensitivities, and tarnishes the reputation of Malaysia’s security institutions.

In the post, Zaharuddin crafted a narrative suggesting that by 2058, Malaysia’s 50th Prime Minister would be of Chinese descent, born to foreign parents via the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme. Despite labeling it as “illustrative,” he included an image of a recently appointed Chinese Malaysian Lieutenant General, insinuating that the advancement of non-Malays in the military should be viewed with suspicion.

The coalition described the post as a veiled provocation disguised as political satire, aimed at stoking racial tensions through deceitful and irresponsible means.

Quoting Human Resources Minister YB Steven Sim, the groups reiterated: “At the border, bullets do not discriminate by race.” They emphasized that in the battlefield, loyalty, courage, and patriotism transcend racial divides, urging the public to reject attempts to inject racial politics into the nation’s armed forces.

“The Malaysian Armed Forces must not be politicized,” the coalition stated. “They are not tools for any group’s rhetoric but the nation’s final line of defense, deserving respect, admiration, and protection—not mockery or false fearmongering.”

The groups also expressed gratitude to the Persatuan Veteran Angkatan Tentera Malaysia SPT, who joined them at IPD Perda in a show of solidarity. Their presence underscored a unified stance, with the voices of youth and former defenders of the nation resounding together to reject racial politics and uphold national honor.
