Terengganu Secures RM287.8 Million for Water-Related Projects in 2025 Under PETRA’s Rolling Plan

KUALA NERUS, May 24, 2025 — The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has allocated RM287.8 million to Terengganu for water-related projects under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of 2025, as part of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-12).

The funding supports 27 projects, including 22 initiatives for water resources, flood mitigation, and coastal erosion managed by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), three water supply projects under the Water Supply Department (JBA), and two sewerage projects overseen by the Sewerage Services Department (JPP).

A key highlight is the RM90 million Coastal Erosion Control Project at Kuala Nerus Beach, inspected today by PETRA Secretary-General Dato’ Haji Mad Zaidi bin Mohd Karli during the PETRA East Zone Squad 2025 visit. Currently at 24.5% physical progress, the project involves beach nourishment along a 2-kilometer stretch and the construction of 16 breakwaters from Mengabang Telipot to Batu Rakit. Set for completion by January 2027, it aims to restore the coastline, prevent coastal flooding, and protect infrastructure to boost local economic growth.

The PETRA East Zone Squad, running from May 24 to 25, also visited Kelantan to review the Sungai Kelantan Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB) Phase 1 in Kota Bharu. Valued at RM669 million, this project, now 95.9% complete and slated for full completion by September 2026, includes flood mitigation, eco-friendly drainage, and river revitalization components.

Additional stops included an electric vehicle (EV) charger inspection at AEON Mall and a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program at Masjid Al-Hijrah Tok Bali in Kota Bharu. The squad’s visits underscore PETRA’s commitment to sustainable water and energy initiatives, aligning with the Malaysia MADANI principles to enhance community well-being and quality of life, particularly in the East Coast region.
